About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for assisting with medications and monitoring the personal care services provided by Resident Assistants. This role involves reporting resident care and symptoms to the next shift staff and the Resident Care Manager. The LPN may also be required to handle emergencies and assume supervisory duties of staff and the building as necessary.

Requirements

  • Credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse with a current State license.
  • Organizational skills and ability to supervise department staff effectively.
  • Ability to work well with personnel of other departments.
  • Ability to communicate well (verbally and in writing).
  • Ability to utilize creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to handle problems diplomatically.
  • Ability to relate well to geriatric residents.
  • Respectful and caring attitude towards residents.
  • Physical stamina for constant activity.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pass medications to assigned residents and monitor residents participating in the self-medication program.
  • Direct and monitor personal care duties performed by Resident Assistants.
  • Assist Resident Assistants with direct resident care as needed.
  • Report unusual symptoms, daily needs, and progress of residents to the Resident Care Manager.
  • Follow the plan of care for each resident and monitor Resident Assistants' performance in executing the care plan.
  • Manage the receiving, storing, and distributing of controlled substance medications, ensuring proper storage and use.
  • Maintain documentation of resident care in Case Notes, Medication Administration Records, and other required records.
  • Assist in problem-solving related to staffing, supplies, and resident care during the shift.
  • Ensure resident care standards are maintained and resident rights and preferences are respected.
  • Treat residents with respect and kindness at all times.
  • Perform first-aid services and complete Accident/Incident Reports.
  • Assist with dining room service for all meals, maintaining facility standards.
  • Participate in Change-of-Shift Report to update the next shift on resident care and needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and required or preferred in-service training.
  • Perform all job duties according to safety rules and practices.
  • Exhibit a high level of customer service towards staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Perform other work duties as assigned by the Resident Care Manager.
