About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct support to students by assisting them in maintaining, improving, or adapting to their health status. This role contributes significantly to the attainment of optimal health and educational potential of each student, aligning with Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools. The position is for 0.42 FTE, with a schedule of Monday - Friday from 3pm to 6pm during the 2025-2026 School Year.

Requirements

A valid Massachusetts Practical Nurse License is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to questions from students, staff, parents, and community members.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Sound reasoning and problem-solving skills to evaluate information, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
Capacity to use professional literature, evidence-based research, and ongoing professional learning to inform instructional and practice decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
Strong organizational and time-management skills to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects.
Commitment to performing all duties in compliance with district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies.
Demonstrated cultural proficiency and competence in working with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and student records.
Professionalism and composure in responding to unpredictable or challenging situations.
Proficiency in using technology and willingness to learn new tools; ability to operate a computer and utilize software, including Google Workspace for Education.
Willingness to plan, coordinate, and participate in ongoing professional learning, coaching, and staff development.
Experience in evaluating student skills, interpreting assessment data, and writing clear, concise reports.
Strong collaborative, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming.
Ability to use data effectively to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
Knowledge of specialized content areas, relevant laws, and educational procedures.
Ability to plan and implement lessons that align with district and school goals.
Proficiency in integrating instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Nice To Haves

Experience in school, pediatric, public health, or other relevant nursing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Identifies specific medical needs related to the student's health status and facilitates appropriate management in the school setting.
Serves as a health advocate for the student through communication with parents, health care providers, and community agencies.
Facilitates student immunization compliance in accordance with DPH regulations.
Triages students and/or staff with injuries or illnesses and provides appropriate interventions and follow-up.
Administers medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations.
Maintains and implements an individualized health care plan for each student with documented health needs.
Facilitates special nursing care for technology-dependent students.
Educates and promotes compliance with universal precautions.
Identifies unsafe conditions in the school setting and collaborates with administration and school personnel to resolve them.
Collaborates with school personnel to develop and facilitate safety plans dealing with students with health conditions.
Collaborates with staff in developing, implementing, and delivering school health programs.
Collaborates with staff in modifying the educational program to meet the health and emotional needs of individual students.
Consults with teachers regarding students’ specific health issues that may impact learning.
Maintains computerized medical records for each student enrolled in the district.
Maintains updated information on each student’s computer record, including immunizations and screenings.
Prepares and submits all reports mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Maintains adequate health room supplies.
Provides interpretation of health assessments and medical data for SPED evaluations.
Communicate with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and agencies regarding student health issues when appropriate.
Attends meetings and conferences regarding health services and professional development.
Maintaining a positive environment in the health room and communicating with students, parents, staff, agencies, and administrators.
Interprets school health regulations to school administrators, staff, and parents.
Identifies community resources for appropriate referrals.
Carries out home visits when indicated for the effective management of health concerns.
Participates in professional development.
Maintains a contemporary knowledge base to provide care to students and staff.
Performs all scheduled duties and responsibilities within expected time frames.
