About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work on the 4 North unit at Richmond Hospital in Richmond, BC. This role is part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care. The LPN will practice within a client and family-centred care model and adhere to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice. The position involves performing the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated specialty area, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care. The LPN will also provide support to clients and their families. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team and under general supervision, the LPN will support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs. Maintaining and advancing clinical competence is a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents client care.
  • Provides support to clients and their families.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Supports the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
