About The Position

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 26/27 school year only. This role involves performing specialized support services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LPN will assist with nursing tasks, promote student safety and well-being, reinforce classroom programs, and maintain documentation. This specific part-time position will focus on providing health services to an individual student with significant health, physical, and educational needs within a classroom setting, following delegated tasks from the Registered Nurse. Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Current and valid Oregon License to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
At least six (6) months of experience working in a hospital, community, or home health clinical setting with patients/clients who exhibit chronic or technology-supported health concerns
Valid state-issued driver's license and insured vehicle available for use on the job
Current First Aid/CPR/AED card, epinephrine and glucagon certificates, or ability to obtain certificates within thirty (30) days of the start date.
Follow through on assigned student health plans.
Maintain effective working relationships with Registered Nurses, School Secretaries, Health Aides, and Teachers.
Conduct specialized assessments under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Recognize urgent problems and refer to the Registered Nurse.
Good basic problem-solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Understand and execute oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Promote and preserve students' autonomy, dignity, and rights in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that recognizes student diversity.
Protect confidential student information and use judgment in sharing this information in a manner consistent with current law.
Exhibits knowledge of job limitations and accepts supervision.
Ability to work calmly in stressful situations.
Self-directed, ability to work without direct supervision and prioritize workload to assure efficient/quality support to staff and students.

Responsibilities

Implements nursing care according to established priority of needs and standards of practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Confers with the Registered Nurse to plan and oversee daily routines for students with health concerns, including administering insulin.
Assists with health-related programs such as vision, dental, and audiometric screenings, fluoride rinses, and managing communicable conditions like head lice and scabies.
Administers immunizations during special clinics, which may involve contacting parents/guardians.
Provides basic emergency medical and first aid care at the school site.
Assists the nurse with further student care as needed, including administering epinephrine and glucagon per protocol.
Administers medication per protocol with written parent/guardian permission.
Works with a health aide to maintain and update manual and computerized student health records, including immunization records and health concern updates.
