About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is implementing minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) to enhance nursing practice and quality of care. VCH is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) for GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre (GF. Strong) for various employment types including Regular Full time/part time, Temporary Full-Time/ Part-time, and/or casual. The LPN practices within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards. They work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, performing the full scope of practical nursing for clients with predictable outcomes in a designated specialty area. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care, as well as providing support to clients and families. The LPN also supports the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex needs. The role requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre is BC’s largest rehabilitation centre, offering inpatient services in four programs: Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Neuromusculoskeletal (NMS), Transitional Rehabilitation Unit (TRU), and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI).

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performing full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care.
  • Providing support to clients and their families.
  • Working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Supporting the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintaining and advancing clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licenced Practical Nurses.
