Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - School Nursing
About The Position
This position is primarily focused on supporting a student who requires ongoing tracheostomy care throughout the school day. This role offers the opportunity to build a meaningful, long-term relationship with a student and school community while providing consistent nursing support throughout the school year. Seeking an RN who is detail-oriented, consistent, and comfortable following individualized care plans while building a strong relationship with the student. This role is ideal for an LPN who enjoys building strong relationships with students and providing individualized care in a school environment. Requirements
- Active, unrestricted Michigan Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
- Experience with tracheostomy care preferred
- Experience working with pediatric patients or school-aged children preferred
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff and families
- BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 90 days of hire
- Background check and fingerprinting will be required for this role
Responsibilities
- Providing nursing care for a student throughout the school day
- Performing tracheostomy care and monitoring the student's respiratory status
- Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
- Assessing and responding to illness, injuries, or medical emergencies during the school day
- Maintaining accurate health records and documenting care provided
- Collaborating with teachers, administrators, therapists, and families to support the student's health and educational goals
- Serving as a health resource for school staff and assisting with health-related needs as appropriate
