About The Position

Responsibilities include assisting physicians or RNs, collecting patient data, implementing age-appropriate interventions, and ensuring a safe environment. The role also emphasizes professional development and teamwork. Specific duties vary depending on whether the role is filled by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Medical Assistant (MA). LPNs focus on nursing care and education, while MAs provide clinical and administrative support, including patient intake, assisting with procedures, performing tests, and documentation.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program (for LPN role).
High School Diploma or equivalent required (for MA role).
None Required experience (for both roles).
Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia prior to onboarding (for LPN role).
American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required (for both roles).
Currently enrolled or have completion of a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and/or hold a current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA, AMT, NAHP, ARMA, or NHA (for MA role).
Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months from the date of hire (for MA role).

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, ongoing education, and reinforcement of care plans.
Provide general support in an ambulatory setting under the direction or supervision of a physician or RN designee.
Collect data concerning the physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of patients.
Organize and prioritize nursing care activities considering patient needs and the interdisciplinary team.
Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs.
Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of care.
Provide ongoing education and reinforcement of care plans.
Provide a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
Assume responsibility for professional development of self and contribute to the professional development of others.
Demonstrate teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
Assist with administrative tasks and provide general support in an ambulatory setting.
Perform various laboratory tests, quality control indicators, and clinical intake.
Prepare laboratory specimens, perform testing (e.g., point of care testing, CLIA waived testing ECG/EKG, spirometry, venipuncture/phlebotomy, specimen collection).
Perform appropriate cleaning and sterilization of instruments/equipment and rooms.
Dispose of contaminated supplies, perform wound care, and administer medications.
Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
Reinforce patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs.
Maintain supplies and equipment.
Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
Perform administrative support responsibilities, including drafting letters, assisting with forms, facilitating scheduling, pending medication refills, assisting with in-basket messaging, and assisting with clinic/chart prep.
