This position involves administering nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. The role performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties utilizing the nursing process, participates in Quality Improvement initiatives, and promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital. Key responsibilities include implementing, transcribing, and/or countersigning physician’s orders, competently administering medications, and assisting physicians with diagnostic tests and procedures. The role also involves assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, functioning effectively as a team leader, and providing leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary departments and other patient care team members. The individual will competently perform core and unit-specific clinical skills, demonstrate the ability to possess clinical data and communicate it to physicians/nurse practitioners for sound clinical decisions, and utilize nursing assessment skills to participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Additionally, the role involves identifying patient, family, and/or significant other needs (biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, discharge planning, spiritual, and educational), participating in patient/family teaching, calling in medications to the pharmacist, and assisting in compiling and filing chart information.
