Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Long Term Care
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Coastal Long Term Care team at Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver, BC. This role operates within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice. The LPN will independently and collaboratively perform the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes in a designated specialty area. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care, as well as providing support to clients and their families. The LPN will also support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs, requiring advanced knowledge and skills beyond the LPN scope of practice. Maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards is essential. The position is part of VCH's provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative to enhance nursing practice and quality of care.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document client care.
- Provide support to clients and their families.
- Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
- Support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
