Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Long Term Care
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their team at the Purdy Pavillons in Vancouver, BC. This role operates within a client and family-centered care model and adheres to the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The LPN will work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team, performing the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes in a designated specialty area. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care, as well as providing support to clients and their families. The LPN will also support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. VCH is implementing minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) to enhance nursing practice and quality of care. This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU), and health organizations. VCH is committed to fostering quality practice and learning environments.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Performing the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
- Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care.
- Providing support to clients and their families.
- Working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
- Supporting the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Maintaining and advancing clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licenced Practical Nurses.
