Requirements

• Current state LPN license.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active North Carolina LPN license (single-state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Previous Family Medicine or Pediatric Care is required.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with payors, staff, etc.

Responsibilities

• As supervised and delegated by a registered nurse, provides direct patient care to patients in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
• Under the direction of an RN, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN.
• Establishes and maintains efficient methods of ensuring the medical necessity and appropriateness of all hospital admissions while obtaining precertification’s.
• Performs admission and concurrent precertification’s for patients to ensure that the claim has an authorization number to prevent denials.
• Reviews charts for clinical information to obtain precertification.
• Maintains proper telephone etiquette to referral sources.
• Manages patients under RN case manager supervision.
• Evaluates patient status to ensure it is correct per medical necessity for appropriate reimbursement.
