Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN school of nursing.
  • Current and valid Virginia State Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
  • One (1) year of experience in the administration of medication or in a substance abuse treatment, psychiatric setting or long term care facility including the dispensing of narcotic medication.
  • Strong understanding of mental health laws, guidelines, and confidentiality regulations such as HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Familiarity with psychiatric and medical terminology.
  • Ability to accurately maintain client medical records and prepare comprehensive reports.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the staff psychiatrist in administering and monitoring medications.
  • Ensure adherence to treatment plans.
  • Perform routine physical and mental health assessments.
  • Order and dispense medications.
  • Provide essential supportive counseling to clients.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate medical records and medication inventories.
  • Ensure secure handling of medications.
  • Conduct medical intakes.
  • Schedule examinations.
  • Follow up on medical concerns.
