The Health Services Technician provides clinical, emergency care, and treatment to inmates in a correctional institution performing nursing functions under the supervision and written direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role involves providing wound care, recognizing disease processes, conducting nursing procedures, administering medications, using routine medical equipment, providing first aid and CPR, performing phlebotomy, assessing emergency severity using triage, developing treatment plans for life-threatening emergencies, delegating non-nursing duties, preparing accurate documentation, monitoring patient conditions, developing and executing teaching programs on medical issues, understanding patient rights and confidentiality statutes, assisting with writing Nursing Policy and Procedures, performing EKGs and appropriate referral actions, responding to combative or hostile patients, communicating with patients about their condition and procedures, working effectively with staff, and using proper body mechanics for patient and equipment maneuverability.
