About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the WA State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, WA. Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the department's mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions. Requirements

  • Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse OR An unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State and completion of the MLS demographic survey.
  • Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Have American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
  • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medication.
  • Use tools, techniques, and physical and cognitive skills and abilities to practice nursing safety and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code so that patient care provided is safe, effective, efficient, and clinically appropriate.
  • Provide competent patient care.
  • Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times.
  • Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.
  • Provide effective communication and documentation.
  • All other tasks assigned.
