About The Position

The Licensed Pharmacy Technician will perform a variety of duties to support the pharmacist in processing prescriptions and ensuring efficient pharmacy operations. This role involves direct patient interaction, data entry, medication handling, inventory management, and adherence to all relevant policies and regulations. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a climate-controlled medical office environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
  • Auto liability insurance on personal vehicles
  • Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
  • Competent in the use of computers
  • Capable of independent problem solving with moderate to little supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Cash handling skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Must pass all pre-employment requirements: Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System (CANTS) Clearance, Criminal/Traffic Background Check, Office of Inspector General Exclusionary List, National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), If applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and greet patients.
  • Assist the pharmacist on duty in processing prescriptions, including entering patient demographic and billing information, prescription details, printing labels, selecting correct medication, preparing prescriptions for verification, and packaging verified prescriptions.
  • Process patient payments via the pharmacy point of sale system.
  • Assist patients in obtaining expense and expenditure reports.
  • Address patient third-party prescription insurance coverage issues, including verifying coverage, submitting prior authorization requests, and communicating with providers regarding formulary compliance.
  • Submit and follow up on prescription renewal requests with providers.
  • Manage the prescription will-call bin.
  • Maintain competency in the utilization of remote dispensing technology.
  • Deliver medications to SHS Clinic and remote dispensing locations.
  • Implement inventory control processes for medications and supplies.
  • Receive and put away medication and supply orders from distributors.
  • Utilize assistive technology for job duty completion.
  • Perform routine cleaning and straightening of the work area.
  • Perform outdated and recalled medication surveillance and processing.
  • Maintain mandated logs.
  • File prescription and inventory documentation.
  • Perform data collection for 340b auditing.
  • Assist in training of new staff as required.
  • Attend mandated staff meetings.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Shawnee Health Service policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by actively participating in team-based improvement events.
  • Maintain compliance with Shawnee Health Service policies, procedures, and on-going education requirements, as well as program-specific standards and regulations.
  • Comply with all standard operation procedures of Shawnee Health Service regarding employee health and safety, including OSHA regulations, EPA regulations governing waste disposal, and completion of unusual occurrence reports.
