About The Position

BJ's Wholesale Club is seeking a part-time Licensed Optician to join their team. This role is responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to adults and children, working with prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists. The optician will advise and assist patients with various types of lenses and spectacle frames, considering style, weight, and color. The position emphasizes delivering excellent member service, maintaining accuracy in order entry and filing, and educating patients on product benefits to meet sales and metric goals. Adherence to privacy policies, including HIPAA, is required. The role also involves assisting with eyeglass adjustments and repairs, supporting opening and closing procedures, and handling financial transactions accurately. Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.

Requirements

• Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep license up to date and active.
• Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills and an attention to detail required.
• At least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of optical products and business practices preferred.
• High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, and/or optical experience is preferred.
• Open shift availability required for full time positions.

Responsibilities

• Dispensing spectacles and other optical products to adults and children.
• Advising and assisting patients with various types of lenses and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color.
• Verifying order data entry and comparing Rx to the original prescription.
• Completing proper order filing procedures.
• Delivering sales by providing excellent Member service in person and over the phone.
• Explaining in detail all procedures included under the exam fee.
• Taking measurements, assuring correct frame selection for Rx power, and reading prescriptions on the lensometer.
• Notifying patients of product readiness and advancing the order in the system.
• Handling all money-related transactions.
• Striving to deliver sales and metric goals by educating patients on product benefits and recommending solutions for visual needs.
• Spending downtime engaging with members in front of Optical.
• Adhering to all privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e., HIPAA).
• Providing support to Members in making eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
• Assisting the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures.
• Ensuring that accurate funds are collected and payments are made at the point of service.
• Maintaining all club policies and procedures.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
