About The Position

The Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA) is primarily responsible for completing patient care assigned by the Registered Nurse. This includes assisting with patient hygiene, taking and recording vital signs and weights, assisting with transfers, ambulation, and transportation, assisting with food trays and feeding patients, recording intake and output, answering call lights and telephone, performing clerical tasks, organizing supplies, applying and using specified patient care equipment, and maintaining a safe environment. The LNA also assists with room set-up at admission and patient readiness at discharge, and performs other non-nursing tasks as assigned. The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an acuity adjustable unit providing care to a diverse patient population requiring medical-surgical and telemetry levels of care, including higher acuity patients on BiPap, titratable drips, or with hemodynamic instability. The PCU is a 24/7/365 service with 25 beds and a collaborative team including hospital medicine, care management, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current Vermont Nursing Assistant licensure.
  • Current BLS healthcare provider status.
  • OSHA Category I - Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision and direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Obtains and documents routine vital signs, weights, intake and output, and other assigned observations.
  • Assists with patient mobility, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and range of motion exercises using safe patient handling techniques.
  • Observes patients' physical, emotional, and behavioral condition and promptly reports changes to the appropriate licensed nurse.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized patient environment while following infection prevention and control practices.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges, including preparing patient rooms and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Responds promptly to patient requests and call lights, promoting a positive patient experience.
  • Assists with specimen collection and other delegated clinical tasks within the LNA scope of practice.
  • Documents care provided accurately, completely, and in a timely manner in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Supports patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates effectively with nurses, physicians, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ensures patient safety by identifying and reporting hazards, following fall prevention protocols, and adhering to safety procedures.
  • Maintains required certifications and completes mandatory education and competency requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice and organizational policies.
