About The Position

We have a new opening for a Licensed Medical Social Worker for a full-time position at the Maxwell Ambulatory Health Care Clinic, at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. The core duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating appropriate referrals to community and other Government agencies for services. The role involves independently assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, formulating and implementing treatment plans, and conducting psychosocial assessments and providing psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals. The social worker will use medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures, including acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology. They will implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups experiencing psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals, and provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services within the bounds of their license. Additionally, the role includes providing consultation services to other staff, participating in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other required organizations. Additional duties include performing walk-in duties on a rotational schedule, performing special evaluations as needed, providing training for junior providers/enlisted upon request, contributing to clinic innovation, and seeking evidenced-based training/certificates for the application of up-to-date treatment modalities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW).
  • Graduate from a School of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • At least two years of post-grad independent practice of clinical social work for adults in an outpatient clinical setting, within the past five (5) years.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted LCSW license from any state.
  • Possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification. (Note: May obtain BLS upon acceptance, prior to start date.)
  • Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Documented evidence of current clinical competence within the past two years, including professional references and verified privilege lists.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate appropriate referrals to community and other Government agencies for services.
  • Independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members and formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient’s problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and assistance needed, in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diverse backgrounds.
  • Use medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
  • Implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
  • Independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups, couples, and families. Must practice within the bounds of the license or certification.
  • Provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
  • Participate in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organizations required at the facility.
  • Perform walk-in duties on a rotational schedule.
  • Perform special evaluations on an as needed basis.
  • Provide training for junior providers/enlisted upon request.
  • Improve the clinic by contributing to innovation.
  • Seek evidenced based training/certificates for application of most up to date treatment modalities.
