About The Position

We’re seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience to lead engineering projects for commercial, healthcare, institutional, and municipal facilities. This role combines technical design leadership with construction-phase support, from initial system design through final project delivery. The engineer designs HVAC and mechanical systems, develops calculations and construction documents, coordinates designs with other disciplines, and provides technical review and field support. The role may serve as Engineer of Record when assigned and includes signing and sealing engineering documents as authorized by licensure and applicable regulations. Substantial hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience is essential; candidates focused primarily on project management, administration, or coordination without significant design involvement will not qualify.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Direct HVAC and mechanical MEP design experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, municipal, or comparable facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of load calculations, ventilation design, HVAC equipment selection, energy efficiency, and mechanical codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent mechanical design software.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
  • Understanding of building system integration and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Strong technical judgment, analytical skills, troubleshooting abilities, and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with building owners, architects, contractors, and engineering teams.
  • Substantial hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience; project management, administration, or coordination experience without significant design involvement does not qualify.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience preferred.
  • Healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other complex facility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and mechanical systems that meet building requirements, performance standards, and applicable codes.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, evaluate ventilation needs, select equipment, and assess energy efficiency.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, technical specifications, equipment schedules, engineering calculations, and construction documents.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, ensuring technical quality and sound engineering decisions throughout the project.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Evaluate existing building conditions, regulatory requirements, and project constraints to determine appropriate design solutions.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and proposed design changes for technical compliance.
  • Conduct site visits, field evaluations, and construction observations to verify design intent and identify installation issues.
  • Resolve design conflicts, code concerns, and field challenges while maintaining system performance and compliance.
  • Evaluate alternative designs to improve cost efficiency, energy performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support commissioning, inspections, testing, and final project handover.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents as authorized by licensure and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure deliverables meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
