About The Position

We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience to lead engineering projects for commercial, healthcare, institutional, and municipal facilities. The role combines technical design leadership with construction-phase support, overseeing projects from initial system design through final delivery. The successful candidate will apply sound engineering judgment, understand applicable codes, and develop reliable, efficient mechanical systems while maintaining technical quality and project requirements. Substantial direct HVAC and mechanical design experience is essential. Candidates whose backgrounds focus primarily on project management, administration, or coordination without significant hands-on design involvement will not qualify.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Direct HVAC and mechanical MEP design experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, municipal, or comparable facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation design, HVAC equipment selection, energy efficiency, and applicable mechanical codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent mechanical design software.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, construction drawings, technical specifications, and equipment schedules.
  • Understanding of building system integration and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Strong technical judgment, analytical skills, troubleshooting abilities, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with building owners, architects, contractors, and engineering teams.
  • Substantial hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience; primarily project-management, administration, or coordination backgrounds without significant direct design involvement do not qualify.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other complex facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and mechanical systems that meet building requirements, performance standards, and applicable codes.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, evaluate ventilation requirements, select appropriate equipment, and assess energy efficiency.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, technical specifications, equipment schedules, engineering calculations, and construction documents.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, maintaining technical accuracy and sound engineering judgment throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Evaluate existing building conditions, regulatory requirements, and project constraints to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), and proposed design changes for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct site visits, field evaluations, and construction observations to verify design intent and identify installation issues.
  • Resolve design conflicts, code concerns, and field challenges while maintaining system performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate alternative designs to improve cost efficiency, energy performance, system reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support commissioning, inspections, testing, and final project handover.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents as permitted by professional licensure and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure deliverables meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plan with company contribution.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Continuing education and professional development support.
  • Opportunity to engineer complex commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Long-term career development and advancement opportunities.
