About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for licensed US mechanical engineers with professional experience in mechanical design, thermodynamics, HVAC, manufacturing, technical documentation, and industry-standard engineering tools. This role supports an AI research initiative focused on improving how advanced systems understand and reason about mechanical engineering topics. Selected professionals will evaluate written and AI-generated content, answer technical questions, identify relevant reference materials, and provide practical insight into real-world mechanical engineering workflows, standards, and professional decision-making.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer licence in the United States
  • At least 2 years of professional mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience in thermodynamics, HVAC, mechanical or structural design, manufacturing, or multiple mechanical engineering areas
  • Strong familiarity with relevant engineering codes, technical standards, and professional documentation
  • Practical experience using SolidWorks, ANSYS, AutoCAD, or similar engineering tools
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Strong written communication, technical reasoning, and attention to detail
  • Reliable availability for approximately 10 hours per week
  • Based in the United States
  • A degree in mechanical engineering from a recognised institution is required
  • An active US Professional Engineer licence is required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced study or professional training in thermodynamics, HVAC, mechanical design, manufacturing, or a related area may strengthen an application
  • Continuing education involving engineering standards, simulation tools, design methods, or manufacturing processes may also be valuable
  • Experience across more than one mechanical engineering discipline
  • Background preparing technical specifications, design documentation, calculations, or training materials
  • Familiarity with finite-element analysis, computational simulation, or product-development workflows
  • Experience reviewing or mentoring the work of junior engineers
  • Knowledge of engineering quality assurance, peer review, design verification, or validation
  • Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT or comparable systems
  • Previous experience with content evaluation, structured feedback, or AI training projects
  • A portfolio of completed mechanical, manufacturing, HVAC, or industrial engineering work

Responsibilities

  • Review written content and AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, relevance, and professional quality.
  • Assess whether calculations, analyses, recommendations, and conclusions reflect sound mechanical engineering practice.
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, design errors, omitted constraints, and technical inconsistencies.
  • Evaluate content within the candidate's strongest areas of mechanical engineering expertise.
  • Answer mechanical engineering questions using clear, well-reasoned technical explanations.
  • Apply professional judgment to thermodynamics, HVAC, mechanical design, structural analysis, and manufacturing scenarios.
  • Assess whether responses account for material properties, loading conditions, operating environments, tolerances, and safety requirements.
  • Provide corrections and supporting rationale where content requires improvement.
  • Review the application of relevant engineering codes and standards, including ASME guidance.
  • Identify reliable technical references appropriate to assigned engineering topics.
  • Assess whether cited methods, equations, and assumptions suit the relevant design or operating context.
  • Highlight safety, regulatory, technical, and procedural considerations affecting engineering decisions.
  • Share insight into practical mechanical engineering workflows, documentation, and quality-control processes.
  • Evaluate content involving SolidWorks, ANSYS, AutoCAD, or comparable engineering tools.
  • Review technical specifications, calculations, drawings, design reports, and training materials.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a small group of subject-matter experts across different fields.

Benefits

  • Part-time W-2 contingent employment opportunity
  • Fully remote within the United States
  • Competitive rates between $60–$85 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
