About The Position

The Licensed Master Social Worker works in a fast-paced Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), a State-designated Community Health Center providing observation and outpatient psychiatric services for people of all ages. The role delivers crisis intervention, assessment, treatment, casework, and referrals to patients and their families, while coordinating care with hospital teams and community services. The position includes cross-training with Mobile Crisis Outreach. The regular schedule is an evening shift with a weekend and holiday rotation; initial training takes place during the day. The work is in a clinical setting and may involve long and irregular hours in an emotionally stressful environment.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.
• Pass the examination offered by ASWB and hold New York State LMSW licensure.
• Good understanding of behavioral health crisis intervention.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, the medical team, and other professionals in the hospital and community.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention and triage patients to the appropriate setting, including voluntary or involuntary waiting areas, children/family services, or emergency department evaluations.
• Provide care and treatment modalities to outpatient and extended-observation clients.
• Provide intensive casework, assessment, intervention, and referral services to patients and/or their families, emphasizing patients’ social needs and using initiative and independent judgment based on professional knowledge, experience, and hospital policy.
• Collaborate with social workers, psychiatrists, clinical affiliates, and unit support staff.
• Serve as a liaison to services along the continuum of care and to community support services.
• Cross-train with Mobile Crisis Outreach (MCO).
• Participate in orientation and continuing education and maintain knowledge and skills related to areas of expertise.
• Supervise students/interns.
