About The Position

The Licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Engineer, under the guidance of the supervisor, ensures the safe and efficient operation of the building, central chiller plant and utility services, heat, water, air conditioning, etc., on a 24-hour basis. This is a position with no supervisory responsibility. The role involves monitoring Boiler Room, Chiller Plant and auxiliary equipment, making emergency repairs, and assisting in testing of emergency generators. The engineer will monitor associated equipment during assigned watch, monitor chiller operations, and manage Bulk Gas systems. Adjustments to air conditioning and heating units will be made to ensure proper temperature, and checks will be performed on fans for proper ventilation. A daily log of unusual conditions is maintained, and the HVAC central control system is operated and responded to via alarms. This is a per diem position located at NewYork-Presbyterian/ David H. Koch Center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years of experience working under a refrigeration license
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating System Operating Engineer (Q-01)
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness G-71 Supervision of Pipe Non-Flammable Medical Gas within 6 months of hire
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Fireguard F-60 within 6 months of hire
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Torch Use of Flammable Gases G-60 within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness P-98 Supervise Fuel Oil Transfer in Buildings within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-01 Fire Guard within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-12 Sprinkler Systems within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-13 Standpipe Systems within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness A-35 Supervision of Air Compressors within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the building, central chiller plant and utility services.
  • Monitors Boiler Room, Chiller Plant and auxiliary equipment, i.e. pumps, emergency generators, etc., ensuring efficient operations and safety.
  • Makes emergency repairs, mechanical and electrical, to prevent or stop interruptions of utility services.
  • Assists in testing of emergency generators as required.
  • Monitors associated equipment during assigned watch.
  • Monitors chiller operations.
  • Monitors Bulk Gas systems, which includes inspection rounds on equipment and tank replacement.
  • Adjusts major air conditioning units and/or heat depending on needs to ensure proper temperature.
  • Checks exhaust and supply fans for proper ventilation.
  • Maintains a daily log of any unusual conditions arising during the shift.
  • Operates and responds to alarm for HVAC central control system.
