About The Position

Portland Tugboat is seeking a highly qualified Licensed Engineer to join their team onboard the Jackie F McAllister. The Licensed Engineer is an experienced skilled crewmember on board the vessel’s Engineering Department, directly responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment on the boat. This role requires keeping the Captain apprised of any issues or relief needs. The position involves ensuring the good condition and efficient working of the entire machinery plant, including main engines, propulsion, auxiliary machinery, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and steering systems, as well as associated components, deck machinery, valves, pipes, and the watertight integrity of the vessel. The Licensed Engineer must maintain compliance with the quality, safety, and environmental management system as detailed in the McAllister Operations Manual. Responsibilities also include supervising the procurement, loading, use, transfer, and discharge of potable water, ballast water, fuel oil, and lube oil, ensuring proper quality and quantity, and making appropriate log entries and completing Fuel Transfer Certificates. The role also entails repairing all machinery and equipment onboard within capacity and completing the daily engine log.

Requirements

• Valid Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
• Valid TWIC Card
• Valid Engineering License
• Must pass pre-employment drug test.
• Must pass pre-employment physical.
• A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment on the boat.
• Keep Captain apprised of issue(s) or relief.
• Ensure the good condition and efficiency of the entire machinery plant of the vessel including main engines, propulsion, and auxiliary machinery, all electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic machinery, steering machinery, and all associated components, deck machinery and any and all other valves, pipes, watertight integrity of the vessel.
• Maintain compliance with the quality, safety, and environmental management system as detailed in the McAllister Operations Manual.
• Supervise the procurement, loading, use and transfer and discharge of all potable water, ballast water, fuel oil, lube oil, ascertaining that said products are of proper quality and quantity when received on board and making the proper entries in the log and on the Fuel Transfer Certificate.
• Repair all machinery and equipment onboard the vessel within his capacity.
• Complete the daily engine log each day.
