About The Position

New Hanover County is seeking a Licensed Clinical Therapist to work in the Community Justice Services department. This long-standing fully grant-funded position provides home-based family counseling and therapeutic services to at-risk youth and their families. This position currently utilizes telework and telehealth flexibility to meet the needs of clients and their families. The Community Justice Services department provides an array of prevention and intervention programs and services targeted at preventing and reducing crime risk for the at-risk, diverted and offender populations through our Youth Empowerment Services and Adult Enhancement Services Divisions. Our citizen-focused team is comprised of 30 dedicated professionals who work with youth, adults and families to increase the likelihood that they will become productive members of society. Requirements

  • Experience and education sufficient to obtain one of the following licenses: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) OR Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA).
  • Out-of-state candidates that hold a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) license may be considered for hire but must apply to the LCMHC NC board to obtain an LCMHC license before being hired.
  • Provisionally licensed candidates may be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record required at time of application.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required by first date of employment with good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in providing home-based family counseling and therapeutic services to at-risk youth and their families.
  • Priority consideration will be given to candidates with full licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Completing comprehensive clinical evaluations to assess the need and appropriateness of therapeutic interventions
  • Providing individual and family psychotherapy
  • Developing individual and family treatment plans
  • Consulting with school staff, psychiatrists, social services, and other agencies or providers regarding recommendations for treatment and implementation of services
  • Monitoring treatment plans and services
  • Providing referrals for necessary resources
  • Attending required meetings and trainings
  • Writing reports
  • Providing emergency risk assessments for clients who are being seen within the Division of Juvenile Justice to determine if that client poses a safety threat to themselves or others
  • Participating in regular staff meetings with the court counselors to determine the need for specific services for juveniles who have been charged or adjudicated of different crimes
