About The Position

The JFS Youth and Young Adult Therapist will provide therapy services to JFS clients including individual, family, and group interventions in a collaborative community setting. Focusing on the unique mental health needs that arise in childhood and early adulthood, the Youth and Young Adult Therapist will offer resources and referrals as needed to build clients’ capacity to thrive. This role requires an active TX license. The therapist will perform on-site and/or remote telehealth clinical counseling services, provide additional social services, collaborate with clinical and Shalom Austin staff, maintain documentation, and engage in community outreach and education. The role involves identifying and meeting mental health needs among Austin area youth and young adults. The work environment includes both in-office and remote telehealth services, requiring a private space for remote work to maintain confidentiality. Travel between JFS locations and community workspaces is also required.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or Doctoral level degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related human service field.
  • Full licensure to practice in good standing in the State of Texas (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PhD, PsyD).
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a fully licensed practitioner.
  • Experience counseling children and teens, adults, and families with a variety of mental health needs.
  • Excellent time management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort and experience with clinical interviewing, therapeutic counseling, and case management for clients in-person and online.
  • Working knowledge of Greater Austin mental health and social service resources and referrals.
  • Adheres to legal and ethical standards of care, including scope of practice, client privacy and record-keeping, HIPAA, and cultural competency.
  • Builds meaningful relationships with community partners to improve accessibility and efficacy of mental health programming for young people and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site and/or remote telehealth clinical counseling services to Jewish Family Service clients, in accordance with agency policies. Service demographics include children, teens, young adults, and families. Interventions may include individual and group therapy, case management, and crisis intervention.
  • Provides additional social services to clients as needed, such as advocacy, service linkage and referral, and collaboration with other providers. Maintains knowledge of current resources in the Greater Austin area.
  • Partners closely with fellow clinical staff and all Shalom Austin staff to serve the needs of clients and community. Attends mandatory staff meetings, trainings, biweekly clinical supervision, and offers coverage when needed.
  • Maintains professional and timely documentation of services in electronic medical record including, but not limited to intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, termination notes, contract notes, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required from time-to-time. Tracks and uses program-related data to enhance service effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with other institutions and professionals in the Jewish community, and in the Austin mental health and social services network. Engages in ongoing outreach and community engagement through implementation of psychoeducation, community events, collaboration, and networking.
  • Identify needs among Austin area youth and young adults related to mental health and meet those needs accordingly through direct services and community partnerships.
