About The Position
The City of Corcoran, California, offers a vibrant community with proximity to golf courses, the Kings River for outdoor activities, and a charming downtown area. This position is located at the California State Prison CSP-Corcoran, a complex institution that includes various specialized facilities such as a Correctional Treatment Center, Mental Health Crisis Beds, and an Outpatient Housing Unit. The institution is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections and is designated as a "basic care" institution by California Correctional Health Care Services, capable of providing specialty medical services. The Licensed Clinical Social Worker will play a crucial role in providing mental health services to the inmate population.
Requirements
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited school of social work.
- Full, unrestricted license to practice in the state of California.
- Minimum of 1 year continuous months of experience within the last three years, performing services similar in scope to those defined herein.
- Internships do not count toward the required experience.
Responsibilities
- Periodically serves as clinician-of-the-day, available for on-call during scheduled work days for patient emergencies.
- Conducts initial mental health evaluations, including criminal, psychological, and substance abuse case history, to assess inmate's current needs and make treatment recommendations.
- Conducts clinically sound suicide risk evaluations, applying assessment protocols, reviewing pertinent data, and consulting as needed.
- Meets with mentally ill patient-inmates/youths for crisis intervention, group psychotherapy, and face-to-face interviews.
- May be required to provide clinical, face-to-face interviews at cell fronts in inmate housing units, potentially requiring the ability to climb stairs and walk long distances.
- Identifies signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders to comprehensively assess, diagnose, and manage presenting symptoms.
- Writes clinical reports regarding diagnoses and prognoses and develops treatment plans that reflect the standard of practice.
- Consults on complex cases with supervisor, treatment team members, and other institutional health care personnel.
- Performs mental status exams (MSE) in face-to-face clinical interviews.
- Examines prior mental health records, institutional chromos, probation reports, court records, and other documents to assist in diagnosis and treatment plan development.
- Conducts mental health education and develops additional resources for mentally ill and sex offender patient-inmates/youths.
- Assists patient-inmates/youths in applying for entitlement benefits (SSI), community programs, and services.
- Facilitates patient-inmates/youths transition between various settings within the institution.
- Performs pre-release functions for releasing patient-inmates/youths, including patient education and facilitating transition to county mental health and community treatment programs.
- Provides relatives/caregivers with information concerning patients in person, by phone, or by correspondence, with supervisor approval and patient-inmate/ward's signed release of information.
- Gives input and helps to implement new programs for the treatment, training, or rehabilitation of patient-inmates/youths.
- Adheres to mandated reporting requirements for child abuse, elder abuse, danger to self or others, Tarasoff reporting, and other confidentiality mandates.
