Requirements

  • Must be licensed by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
  • Must be designated by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor Supervisor.
  • Must know and understand the implications of 245G, sections 245A.65, 626.557, and 626.5572, and Chapter 260E.
  • Bachelor degree.
  • 3 or more years of experience providing chemical dependency counseling.
  • CPR Certification or attain within 30 days.
  • Two years of freedom from chemical use problems.
  • Must pass a State of Minnesota Background Check.
  • Must possess a current Minnesota Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and other computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master degree in a human service field.
  • Specialty training such as DBT-SUD, CBT, MI, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling, group counseling, case management, and crisis intervention addressing treatment plan goals.
  • Document services provided in client files according to NBH policies, procedures, and governing body standards.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans meeting individual client needs, in accordance with NBH policies, procedures, and governing body standards.
  • Complete and document assessments according to NBH policies, procedures, and governing body standards.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and supervision meetings.
  • Conduct weekly individual supervision meetings with clinicians and interns.
  • Manage disciplinary actions for employee problems, performance, or behavior, including verbal warnings, written warnings, and performance improvement plans.
  • Coordinate care with outside providers such as courts, Department of Corrections, and other referral sources, providing requested information.
  • Manage discharge duties in accordance with contracts, licensure standards, and NBH policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of core competencies for working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and skill implementation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of site and client activities.
  • Plan work tasks to align with programming requirements, prioritizing client monitoring, house rounds, documentation, and other assignments.
  • Be available to clients for questions and assistance in a friendly, respectful, and dignified manner.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Work independently with little direction, demonstrating high dependability.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program philosophy, policies, procedures, 245G requirements, house operations, client rights, and confidentiality.
  • Complete intake/admission procedures, and orientation of new clients and co-workers.
  • Encourage clients to achieve their goals by functioning as a positive role model.
  • Serve as a resource for clients by providing knowledge of community services and opportunities.
  • Accurately document client information in the communications log and complete other forms.
  • Understand the program mission and how individual work integrates with and advances program goals.
  • Respond to client conflict resolution, grievances, and clinician disciplinary issues.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Effectively problem-solve using sound decision-making skills, good judgment, and a realistic understanding of issues.
  • Objectively document client-related topics in client files and communication logs.
  • Be diplomatic and sensitive to the feelings, needs, values, and opinions of other staff and clients.
  • Take ownership when solving problems and seek assistance when needed.
  • Continuously seek improvement by suggesting solutions to operational struggles and soliciting input from co-workers and the director.
  • Respond constructively to feedback with an open mind.
  • Interact, communicate, and collaborate with team members to support the NBH mission.
  • Demonstrate behavior that maintains a positive environment by role-modeling appropriate language and using respectful social skills.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Complete clerical assignments such as faxing, copying programming materials, stocking packets/forms, typing documents in Word, and updating Excel spreadsheets.
  • Support staff and director in decision-making.
  • Set boundaries with co-workers and clients.
  • Launder agency linen and miscellaneous items as needed.
  • Keep co-workers informed of all appropriate developments.
  • Adhere to attendance and absence policies.
  • Be punctual in reporting for work and shift changes.
  • Participate in rotational and/or off-shift schedules, including a holiday rotation schedule, as applicable.
  • Be willing to work additional hours/off-shift as needed.
