About The Position

This is a student worker position in the Library, requiring enrollment in a minimum number of credit hours and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above (waived for first-semester students). If eligible for Federal Work Study, the student will be hired using those funds. The role involves assisting patrons with technology loans, equipment, and various library services. Responsibilities include providing basic troubleshooting for hardware and software, operating cash handling machines, performing print transactions, assisting with inventory, organizing materials, and checking equipment in and out. The position requires familiarity with a range of audio/video, media production, design, creative, and 3D space software and hardware.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above (waived for first-semester students).
  • Excellent English language communication skills including the ability to read and write.
  • Ability to work independently or with little supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to technology hardware, equipment, and software.
  • Ability to quickly assess and understand technical problems.
  • Ability to work in a busy public services environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., push equipment on a cart and/or set up equipment.
  • Manual dexterity is required for some of the duties involving equipment.

  • Student can work two or more consecutive semesters.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, cloud storage, photography, cameras, microphones and audio recorders, lighting for photo/video, editing, design, or motion graphics, and/or 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with technology loans, equipment, spaces, and customer service in various areas of the Library.
  • Assist patrons with the use of computer and media workstations, peripherals, printers, scanners, and specialized equipment.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for equipment and hardware that is available in the Library.
  • Assist in providing information about department services in person and on the telephone.
  • Operate cash handling machine and perform print transactions.
  • Assist in replenishing supplies, cleaning, and basic maintenance of computers, printers, and media-related equipment.
  • Assist Supervisor and Classified staff with inventory of equipment and technology.
  • Assist with organization of Library materials.
  • Perform check-in/checkout transactions for computer and media equipment and/or spaces.
  • Assist patrons with hardware and software instruction, when appropriate.
  • Be familiar and work with a variety of audio/video, media production, design, creative, and 3D space software and hardware.
  • Other duties as assigned.
