About The Position

The Library Technical Associate provides assistance to patrons including print and online materials at a library specializing in transportation engineering and planning research. The role also provides assistance to library staff to support clerical, reference, technical, web, scanning, and circulation duties. Requirements

  • Completion of a High school degree or GED and 2 years’ full-time work experience.
  • Ability to use a computer and software, including Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in physical and digital file management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and apply digital accessibility standards and remediate processes.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in fields related to information, history, mathematics or logic.
  • Two years’ full-time equivalent experience working in a library.
  • Experience performing library literature searches or cataloging.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1/2.2, ADA, and Section 508.

Responsibilities

  • Work with researchers to correct Section 508 accessibility issues in Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Word for new research project reports approved by TxDOT.
  • Add remediated research project reports to the library catalog.
  • Monthly, review a list from TxDOT of changes made to TxDOT research projects and update the library's TxDOT research projects database and the TRB's Research in Progress (RiP) database.
  • Catalog newly active TxDOT research projects.
  • Prepare a monthly MPR report to TxDOT detailing library activities, which involves searching the library catalog and website, and updating library spreadsheets and the MPR report template.
  • Notify each library staff member that the MPR is available on UT Box for input regarding their tasks.
  • Prepare a report of recently cataloged publications for a distribution list of subscribers in Microsoft Outlook.
  • Scan hard copy materials that are not copyright protected, including older TxDOT Research Reports not currently in the digital library catalogue, and other materials as directed by TxDOT.
  • Monitor the CTR Library email account for reference questions and reply in a timely manner, including requests for copies of reports or journal articles, literature searches, and general inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
