About The Position

The Hillsboro Public Library is seeking a Library Supervisor to oversee library programs and events in a dynamic and growing community. This role will lead the Events and Programming Team, focusing on delivering responsive events and programs aligned with the "For Everyone/Para Todos" mission. The position supports daily library building operations, including opening and closing procedures, staff scheduling, addressing customer service issues, and serving as Person in Charge when needed. Current and upcoming projects include supporting fall programming, advancing the library's new Strategic Plan, supporting City Council priorities and Hillsboro's 2035 Community Plan, developing responsive and engaging programming for all ages, and contributing to the library's marketing and communications efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Recreation Management, Education, Arts & Humanities, and Social Sciences, Social Work, or a closely related field; and four years of related experience, including one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, such as event planning or community programs development, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid, current Driver’s License and safe driving record - required at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • State Notarial Certification - may be obtained within six months of hire
  • First aid, CPR, and mediation certification
  • Experience working with represented staff is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise 3 – 5 full and part-time direct reports: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures
  • Monitor program budgets, program resources & staffing
  • Receive customer inquiries and requests; address and provide responses to inquire program offerings
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professional growth, and continuous improvement through effective performance management and employee development.
  • Work with the event planning team to support dynamic programming and foster a positive work environment aligned with the City and Library’s mission and values.
  • Support daily library building operations, including opening and closing procedures, staff scheduling, addressing customer service issues, and serving as Person in Charge when needed.
  • Contribute to the Library’s marketing and communications work, collaborating with the Library’s Public Information Officer and City’s Communications Department to expand the reach of our services.
  • Use data and community information to guide the planning, coordination, and evaluation of programs and events.
