About The Position

This position serves as the Supervisory Librarian of Library Public Services at the Central Campus. The role involves overseeing all public service functions, including reference, circulation, and reserves/periodicals. The supervisor is responsible for training, scheduling, and evaluating public services personnel, including student assistants. Additionally, the role manages the acquisition of library materials and the public services acquisitions budget. Direct assistance is provided to students, faculty, staff, and the public through research, database searching, and fulfilling research needs via various communication channels. The position also involves developing and conducting information literacy classes, embedded librarianship, creating research guides, and designing online tutorials. Serving as a library liaison for designated departments and participating in the Embedded Librarian program are key functions. The role includes evaluating library materials for deaccessioning and maintaining records and statistical data. Committee participation and engagement in college service opportunities are expected, as is involvement in the hiring process for new personnel.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from American Library Association accredited institution.
  • 3 years demonstrated leadership and community college library experience, including information literacy instruction.
  • Knowledge of personnel supervision, reference service, database searching, and selection of library materials.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Canva, and other standard software.
  • Knowledge of Blackboard or similar LMS.
  • Knowledge of Banner.
  • Ability to multi-task, be service-oriented, and work well with the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sierra system or similar ILS is desirable.
  • 5 years supervisory experience in community college library.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the performance of all public service functions, including reference services, circulation services and reserves/periodicals services.
  • Implement the training, scheduling and evaluation of all public services personnel including student library assistants.
  • Supervise the acquisition of library books, databases, periodicals and microfilm and the expenditure of the public services acquisitions budget.
  • Provide direct assistance to students, faculty, staff and the general public including performing research, database searching, location of books and fulfilling other research needs in person, by phone, and remotely using email and chat reference services, use of SOS and Blackboard functions.
  • Develop and conduct information literacy classes, embedded librarianship duties, print and electronic library research guides, online interactive tutorials using Articulate 365 or similar, and assignments that incorporate ACRL information literacy standards.
  • Serve as library liaison for designated departments and campus.
  • Participate in the Embedded Librarian program to provide library services and information to classes through Blackboard.
  • Evaluate library materials for deaccessioning and work with Technical Services to remove deaccessioned materials from the library’s online catalog.
  • Maintain records and statistical data on library functions and services as appropriate.
  • Serve on library and college-wide committees and engage with college service opportunities.
  • Participate in interviewing and make recommendations on hiring of new personnel to the Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.
