About The Position

Undergrad or Graduate student wage position for 20-30 hours per week. A position is available for a Stacks Assistant at Shannon and Clemons Libraries for the Summer of 2026. The opening is for 20-30 hours per week. The position will start upon hire and end at the beginning of the 2026 Fall semester. A Stacks Assistant plays a vital role in the library: returning library materials to the stacks so they are available to our patrons.

Requirements

• Ability to lift books, bend down, reach up, push heavy book carts, and tolerate exposure to dust is required
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to learn the Library of Congress call number system
• Ability to work independently
• Resume and Cover Letter
• Current UVA student

Responsibilities

• Returning library materials to the stacks
• Move/shift sections of books when space is needed for new or returned books or as part of special projects
• Assist patrons with book searches
• Retrieve used books from the stacks
• Perform general stacks maintenance (e.g., light dusting, placing bookends)
• Sorting and shelving returned books
• General stacks maintenance
• Assisting patrons
• Occasional special projects, as assigned
