Federal work-study students are needed for part-time positions (six to 10 hours per week) as stacks assistants at Shannon and Clemons Libraries for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. This role is crucial for maintaining the library's collection by returning materials to the shelves, ensuring they are accessible to patrons. Responsibilities include shifting book sections to accommodate new or returned items, assisting patrons with locating books, retrieving used books from the stacks, and performing general maintenance tasks such as light dusting and placing bookends. The position requires the ability to lift books, push heavy book carts, and tolerate exposure to dust. Successful candidates will possess strong attention to detail, the ability to learn the Library of Congress call number system, and the capacity to work independently with self-motivation. Full training will be provided, and shift schedules are flexible, to be determined with the Stacks Supervisor. A resume and cover letter are required for the application, introducing yourself and detailing your interest, skills, experiences, and suitability for the role.
