About The Position

This position performs a variety of specialized library tasks that require attention to detail and correctly implement procedures, including working with the library’s online catalog for specific aspects of the cataloging process. Job duties include, but are not limited to specialized data entry, coding, and troubleshooting information in the online catalog for magazines, newspapers, journals, and other similar library materials. Other job duties include processing and distributing incoming periodicals materials and organization and maintenance of items in Periodicals locations. This position coordinates with other library staff to ensure efficient library operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with email, spreadsheet, and word processing applications, including basic keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to move medium weight boxes, furniture, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
  • Ability to handle materials containing dust or microscopic mold spores.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in Periodicals operations
  • Participates in processing and distribution of incoming magazines, newspapers, journals, and mail.
  • Assists with organization and shelf maintenance of all print and microfom Periodicals locations.
  • Assists with compiling usage statistics of print and microform items in Periodicals locations.
  • Assists with reviewing specific vendor invoices for accuracy prior to payment.
  • Recognizes title changes, ceased publications, cancelled subscriptions, and initiates the appropriate action or notifies the appropriate personnel.
  • May communicate with suppliers via mail, email, or vendor’s computer system to resolve problems and to claim issues not received.
  • Assists with maintenance and clean-up of data in serials item records in the library’s online cataloging system.
  • May assist in processing of added volumes of Reference titles.
  • Participates in Resources & Metadata Management Unit operations
  • Assists with the training of unit staff in serials operations.
  • Contributes to Unit documentation, including manuals, checklists, and procedures.
  • Provides telephone reference service to staff and library patrons for serials holdings during normal business hours.
  • Assists with supply requests for the Resources & Metadata Management Unit.
  • May assist in monitoring electronic journal subscriptions for accuracy in content coverage.
  • May assist with physical processing of other library materials.
  • May assist with thesis and dissertation binding operations.
  • May serve on library and/or university committees.
  • May supervise student employees.
  • May assist with moving furniture or equipment for library events.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University, and job-specific online training courses
