Under the direction of the Principal, the Library Specialist provides a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources. Essential duties and responsibilities include presenting library awareness programs and lessons on literature and library filing systems, reading to small groups or classes of students, typing and processing orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, and catalog cards. The role involves selecting, ordering, and receiving books, maintaining files of catalog cards, vertical file material, and publishers' catalogs, and writing notices to homeroom teachers and parents concerning overdue books and collecting fines. Additionally, the position requires making simple repairs on damaged books, preparing current magazines for shelving, performing the annual inventory of library materials, shelving incoming books, maintaining an inventory of supplies and AV equipment, ordering items for acquisition, performing minor repair on machines, overseeing the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays, helping students locate reference and instructional materials, and assisting teachers in selecting reading material related to the curriculum. Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.
