About The Position

We are hiring an organized and detail-oriented individual to join our Page teams! You will ensure library materials are shelved accurately and create a positive and inviting atmosphere for all patrons. Your work will be with staff and volunteers, and you will contribute to the care of the library collection. As a Library Page at the Lakewood Library, you will support this mission by organizing, shelving, and displaying library materials, assisting with materials processing, and helping create a welcoming library experience. This active role requires teamwork, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and regular physical activity, including standing, lifting, carrying, reaching, and kneeling.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age as of the date of your application.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to put things in numerical and alphabetical order and pull items (books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, etc.) from sorter bins.
  • Ability to create visually appealing displays and assist with merchandising library materials.
  • Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and push book carts for 4 or more hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20-50lbs occasionally, 10-25lbs frequently, or up to 10lbs constantly.
  • Available to work 20 hours per week which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Shelve library materials accurately.
  • Create a positive and inviting atmosphere for all patrons.
  • Contribute to the care of the library collection.
  • Organize, shelve, and display library materials.
  • Assist with materials processing.
  • Help create a welcoming library experience.
  • Determine patron needs and provide high-level customer service.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of self-checkout machines.
  • Regularly use automatic material handling systems.
  • Process library materials, including checking them in/out.
  • Process holds and route materials to other locations.
  • Perform basic author/title and informational searches.
  • Prepare items to be shelved or repaired.
  • Maintain records and process materials from reports.
  • Assist with various equipment.
  • Determine the status of damaged materials.
  • Maintain computer and tangible files.
  • Generate requests for daily maintenance of library computers.
  • Answer in-person inquiries.
  • Help patrons locate needed materials.
  • Refer patrons to other appropriate assistance.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Notify supervisors of problems and non-routine situations.
  • Use library computer systems and automated equipment.
  • Submit records and reports as required.
  • Participate in the design/creation of displays and informational/directional aids.
  • Ensure access to all materials, both physical and digital.
  • Assist with the general appearance and safety of the location.
  • Build and maintain current knowledge of the library profession.
  • Stay current on new trends and technologies.
  • Participate in trainings and other development activities.
  • Participate in staff and division meetings.
  • May participate on committees and/or task forces.
  • Suggest best practices and procedures for pages.
  • May assist in coordinating the work of volunteers.
  • Keep current on library policies and procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to Library policies and procedures.
  • Communicate policies to patrons as necessary.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
