About The Position

The Library Media Specialist will provide access to information for students and staff that is appropriate to student development. This role involves collaborating with teachers to ensure students can access information to achieve classroom objectives, encouraging students to read for information and enjoyment, and providing a welcoming environment conducive to learning. The position is full-time and requires a valid Kentucky Teaching Certification with an LMS endorsement. The role reports to and is evaluated by the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Develop short and long-range goals for the library media center (LMC).
  • Implement policies and procedures for LMC operation.
  • Maintain a technologically advanced facility and program.
  • Coordinate the school's implementation of KETS.
  • Supplement the services of the District Technology Coordinator.
  • Train and supervise clerks, student assistants, and adult volunteers.
  • Select materials and technology for the LMC that support the school's curriculum.
  • Withdraw obsolete materials.
  • Classify, catalog, process, and organize materials and technology for circulation.
  • Establish and follow procedures for maintenance and repair of media and technology.
  • Maintain an inventory of LMC holdings and building hardware and software.
  • Prepare and submit reports to administrators.
  • Prepare and administer budgets for the LMC.
  • Evaluate LMC programs, services, facilities, and materials.
  • Maintain the LMC to be functional, attractive, and an environment that encourages maximum use.
  • Manage student behavior constructively.
  • Serve as a member of the KETS school committee.
  • Serve as an instructional resource consultant and media and technology specialist.
  • Establish methods for flexible scheduling of classes and students.
  • Serve on committees involved with designing learning activities, curriculum revision, and textbook adoption.
  • Plan and/or participate in special projects or proposals.
  • Plan cooperatively with teachers to incorporate research, information retrieval skills, and literature appreciation.
  • Plan units with teachers that stress whole language and interdisciplinary strategies.
  • Provide LMC orientation.
  • Provide access to professional materials and information for school staff.
  • Adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Submit accurate reports promptly.
  • Participate in professional organizations related to library media and technology.
  • Utilize current research and methods in technology, teaching, learning, and library and information science.
  • Make technology information available to the community.
  • Promote a positive relationship with students, staff, and community.
  • Publicize LMC programs, services, and materials.
  • Network with other library media specialists and share resources.
  • Submit statistical reports to administrators/SBDM and faculty that support LMC goals and programs.
