About The Position

This position is responsible for providing assistance to the Media Specialist in the library. The role involves maintaining the library automation system, assisting students and teachers with library materials and technology, preparing displays and notices, managing circulation of periodicals, caring for library materials (including stock management, shelving, and repairs), providing excellent customer service, and offering clerical support in the main office during peak times or as directed by the building principal. The role also requires modeling non-discriminatory practices. Additional duties may be assigned by administrators, and back-up clerical coverage for the main office is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • Completion of a standard high school course of study or any equivalent combination of experience and training including keyboarding and other business courses and computer usage.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling and math, telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators and volunteers.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of library organization and/or previous experience in library work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains electronic database in the library automation system.
  • Assists students and teachers in the use of the library materials, including technology.
  • Prepares displays, orders, reports, notices, letters, etc. as requested by School Library Media Specialist.
  • Receives periodicals and prepares them for circulation.
  • Cares for library materials; including managing book stock according to accepted library practice, shelving materials daily, repairing damaged materials, maintaining bar codes, etc.
  • Provides superior customer service to students, teachers, and families.
  • Provides clerical support in the main office during periods of high volume or as directed by building principal.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Media specialist or other appropriate administrator.
  • Provides back-up clerical coverage in the main office as needed.
