About The Position

The Enoch Pratt Library has an immediate opening for a Library Express Cataloger Specialist. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of bibliographic and item records in the library catalog. This position adds new library materials to the catalog for distribution to all library locations, and to ensure timely delivery to library customers. This position works weekday hours 8am-4pm and reports to the Manager of Technical Services. Department: State Library Resource Center Location: 400 Cathedral Street Baltimore, MD 21201 Salary: $40,229 to 47,324 per year Job Type: On-site Full-Time, Benefits Included

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Two years of experience in either or all : data remediation, inventory, records management, and/or medical coding.
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Office, Outlook or Gmail, and Internet browsers.
  • Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
  • Knowledge of basic English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to file materials alphabetically or by other standardized methods.
  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach on a regular basis.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to keep accurate statistics.
  • Ability to perform detailed and repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
  • Ability to follow instructions, with minimum redirection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work courteously, tactfully, and efficiently with customers and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors or Associates degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with bibliographic records.
  • Experience with library systems such as Sirsi, WorldCat, OCLC, or Polaris.
  • Experience in a public library.

Responsibilities

  • Add new items acquired by the library to the catalog.
  • Edit item records to ensure accuracy and consistency of data entered into the library catalog.
  • Answer tickets related to correction of item-level records.
  • Use SIRSI Workflows (Cataloging and Circulation modules) and Solar Winds Service Desk to perform assigned tasks.
  • Contribute to statistical records of work performed.
  • Sort library materials onto book trucks for distribution throughout the Central Library and to the branch libraries.
  • Push and pull carts of library materials.
  • Print spine labels and create work slips for processing staff.
  • Apply book jackets as needed.
  • Operate copiers, multi-line phones, desktop computers, and other office equipment.
  • Provide general office support, including filing, distributing mail, and directing callers or visitors to the appropriate staff member.
  • Provide assistance for special projects.
