About The Position

Oversees the full range of circulation functions at a branch location and serves as the branch authority on circulation policies and procedures. This role supervises full and part-time circulation staff, reviews applications, conducts interviews, completes performance evaluations, and holds regular meetings with staff. The Library Clerk III is the first point of contact for patrons, assisting them with inquiries, referring them to other departments, and handling potentially difficult situations. The position involves charging/discharging library materials using an integrated library system, managing Interlibrary loans, Patron Holds, and Partnership library reserves. Daily tasks include using various software applications, shelving classifications, internet, email, and spreadsheets, as well as utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and converting collections as needed. The role also involves inputting and maintaining patron data, issuing library cards, and adhering to the Patron Confidentiality Policy. Additionally, the position handles patron payments for fines and lost materials, including cash, credit cards, and operating a cash register, reconciling accounts, and preparing daily deposits and monthly reports. Responsibilities extend to rerouting circulation materials, loading/unloading bins of library materials (up to 25lbs), receiving, sorting, and processing new, existing, and donated items. This includes pushing loaded book trucks, searching shelves, shelving materials, and preparing items for the Hold Shelf. The role also involves checking in periodicals, journals, and newspapers, processing and maintaining the collection, and de-processing older or damaged materials. The Library Clerk III attends system circulation meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings, and training sessions. Other duties may be assigned, potentially including assisting the Business Office with personnel files, hiring, cash handling, timesheets, FMLA paperwork, and assisting the Support Services Department with mail, supply orders, processing staff supervision, and quality control of processed materials. The position also requires participation in emergency management activities during local states of disaster as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 3 years relevant customer service and cash handling experience.

  • Routinely uses software applications, shelving classifications, internet, email, spreadsheets to complete daily tasks, utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), converts collections on-the-fly as necessary.
  • Inputs and maintains patron data in automated circulation system.
  • Maintains patron records; Issues library cards; Follows Patron Confidentiality Policy.
  • Assists patrons paying for overdue fines and/or lost materials – handles cash, cash register, credit cards and equipment.
  • Counts reconciles and balances accounts, prepares daily deposits and monthly reports.
  • Reroutes circulation materials to other branches routinely loads/unloads bins of library materials weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Receives, sorts and processes new, existing and/or donated delivery items.
  • Routinely pushes loaded book trucks, searches shelves for missing or requested items, shelves books and other library materials, prepares items for the Hold Shelf.
  • Receives/checks-in new periodicals, journals and newspapers, processes and maintains the collection.
  • De-processes older or damaged materials.
  • Attends and participates in system circulation meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings and training sessions.
  • Assists Business Office with personnel files, hiring, cash handling, timesheets, FMLA paperwork and other duties as assigned.
  • Assists Support Services Department with receiving and sorting mail, ordering supplies, supervision processing staff, performing quality control of processed materials, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
