About The Position

This position performs various library tasks including checking out books, maintaining borrower records, answering phones, providing information to the public, alphabetizing files, collecting fines, typing notices, and preparing statistical reports. Other clerical and library functions may be requested. The job description outlines the general nature and level of work but is not exhaustive.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of library techniques and procedures desired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to operate equipment including cash register, adding machine, typewriter, and computer.
  • Ability to communicate with the public in a tactful and effective manner.
  • Must possess high school diploma or high school equivalency.
  • Some basic experience in typing.

Responsibilities

  • Checks out books and maintains appropriate records of borrowers and return dates.
  • Maintains records of returned items, including re-shelving and minor repairs.
  • Answers phones and provides information and assistance to the public regarding library hours, policies, card catalog, copy machine, and book locations.
  • Alphabetizes card catalog and patron files.
  • Collects monies for fines, lost books, and reserves.
  • Types library card applications and overdue notices.
  • Prepares statistical reports.
  • Performs other clerical and library functions as requested.
  • Performs other duties as required.
