About The Position

The City of Alabaster is seeking a customer-focused and dependable individual to join the Albert L. Scott Library team as a Library Associate (Circulation Clerk). This position plays an important role in supporting daily library operations while providing exceptional service to the community in one of the fastest-growing cities in Shelby County. Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework preferred
  • Library experience and/or customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of library classification systems and library operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circulation desk operations including checking library materials in and out using an automated circulation system
  • Inspect returned materials and assess fines for overdue, lost, or damaged items
  • Assist patrons with membership applications and maintain accurate patron records
  • Answer routine questions regarding library services, resources, and facilities
  • Assist patrons with public computers, online catalog searches, self-checkout, and print/time management systems
  • Answer telephone calls and provide clerical support as assigned
  • Respond to patron concerns in a professional and courteous manner
  • Assist with shelving, sorting, inventory, and locating library materials
  • Produce and monitor handouts, flyers, displays, newsletters, and signage
  • Help prepare for library events and programs, including setup and decorations
  • Maintain supply inventory and daily statistical reports
  • Retrieve materials from book and DVD drops
  • Count and record daily revenue at closing
  • Assist with displays, circulation incentive programs, bulletin boards, and temporary signage
  • Support other library projects and departments as needed
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $16.81 - $23.26 per hour
