About The Position

This position performs library functions including circulation of materials, maintaining course reserves, processing interlibrary loan requests, facility management, and basic reference services. The role oversees stacks maintenance to ensure accurate organization of collections and acts as a liaison between Denison Libraries and campus facilities units. The Library Associate III will also open and/or close the library, sometimes as the only staff member on duty, and perform a variety of technical duties and provide customer assistance using established library procedures and platforms.

Requirements

• Three years of college and two years of library work experience, or equivalent combination.
• One year of supervisory experience
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to follow through on problems, and outstanding oral and written communications skills
• Basic level of computer literacy including the ability to identify and correct minor computer hardware problems and to clearly define computer problems for IT Help Desk personnel.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to a variety of software applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial screening to library users and advanced service with locating and circulating materials, reserving equipment, using library computers or software, and other access services functions
• Process resource sharing and interlibrary loan requests to facilitate the lending and borrowing of physical and electronic materials between Denison Libraries and other institutions.
• Assist in retrieving, cataloging, and maintaining course reserves
• Oversee reservations and maintenance of study carrels, lockers, and other library spaces
• Hire, train, and mentor student employees to assist in stacks maintenance and circulation functions
• Maintain library stacks to ensure items are shelved accurately with adequate spacing to accommodate growing collections.
• Perform shifting of materials and update wayfinding signage as needed to accommodate space needs
• Maintain stock of all print materials for circulation (wayfinding signage, library contracts, OhioLINK bands, library labels, stacks guides, etc.)
• Communicate all building-related issues to library staff/Facilities Services/campus community as needed.
• Oversee work orders, moving/hauling requests, and other communications with the Facilities department.
• Provide assistance in answering research and reference questions from patrons, referring to subject area liaisons when necessary
• Practice thorough working knowledge of all library and university policies, procedures, standards, and codes.
• Follow established guidelines and procedures
• Participate in or lead standing committees and working groups to support library initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned
