About The Position

The Orange County Library has an opening for a Library Associate II at the Southern Library in the Youth Services Division. The work involves supporting programming, outreach, and community engagement for an assigned age group at an Orange County Library. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian III or Library Division Supervisor I with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions regarding needs and requests of staff and the public. Supervision of others is not required of this position. Performs related work as assigned. The work location is the Southern Library in Carrboro. SBI background check with fingerprinting is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with an associate degree AND one (1) year of work experience related to programming, community engagement, and outreach, OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • An SBI background check with fingerprinting is required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes day, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting programming, outreach, and community engagement for an assigned age group at an Orange County Library.

  • Participation in preparedness and response operations, as well as critical agency needs, in the event of an emergency.
  • Filling a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours, and/or work location in the event of an emergency.
