About The Position

Provides customer service to patrons at various service desks and performs general administrative work. This role involves providing technology support and general information about library resources, creating and maintaining patron accounts, supporting library events, entering data into the online library catalog, assisting with the circulation of library materials, distributing mail, and assisting with opening and closing library branches.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • One (1) year of professional experience working in a library or fast-paced, computerized office environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and the use of software such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and other industry-related software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and the ability to shelve in strict alphabetical and numerical order.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and effectively with library patrons and work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the physical aspect of the position including, the ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, kneel, lift and carry equipment and library material (up to 30 lbs.), and push and pull library carts (weighing up to 300 lbs.).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technology support and general information about library resources and the location of materials to patrons.
  • Creates and maintains patron accounts.
  • Supports library events including managing reservations and room setup.
  • Enters data into the online library catalog and prepares materials using the automated acquisition system.
  • Assists with the circulation of library materials.
  • Distributes mail and periodicals.
  • Assists with the opening and closing of library branches.
  • Supports Town policies and philosophies.
  • Performs other related work as required.
