About The Position

This position is open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. It is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. The department is the Library, and hours vary Monday through Sunday between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The location is 3600 Denali Street. Employees hired or rehired will be placed at the entrance pay step, with advancement to the maximum step within a pay grade by successive steps. Remote work schedule opportunities may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head, though not all positions are eligible per P&P 40-40. Candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States, as the Municipality of Anchorage cannot provide sponsorship for any type of visa.

Responsibilities

  • Pull materials from the Automated Handling bins, sort, and shelve them in order.
  • Check out and check in library materials to and from patrons.
  • Shift materials as needed.
  • Shelf read to ensure proper order.
  • Assist public in use of automated handling and self-check machines.
  • Register library patrons for library cards.
  • Aid customers with the use of library website and catalog.
  • Direct customers to the location of library materials.
  • Maintain library order, straightening shelves, refilling displays, checking computers and other equipment.
  • Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers and the public; Treat everyone with honesty, respect, and fairness.
  • Assist in Anchorage Public Library's (APL) diversity and inclusiveness efforts.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and a positive user experience while being an efficient member of the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
