About The Position

The Library Assistant I conducts the day-to-day business of the Kimberly Public Library. Primarily, it is the responsibility of the Library Assistant I to provide friendly and helpful service to library patrons through personable interaction and efficient application of circulation processes. The Library Assistant I is supervised by the Library Director. The available Library Assistant I position is a permanent part-time position working approximately 15 hours per week. The ideal applicant will be able to work a regular schedule of hours and have flexibility to act as a substitute to کریں additional hours as needed to cover open shifts.

Requirements

  • Some High School education.
  • Knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic information resources including the Internet.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and interpret/apply technical instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work, and respond to varied/changing work demands.
  • Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration and keyboarding activity.
  • Ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers, Library Director, and staff of other InfoSoup libraries.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, lift and carry 30 pounds and maneuver a fully loaded book cart.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 8am and 6pm Monday through Fridays and one Saturday rotation of 9am-1pm each month.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Computers and ability to use the library’s online card catalog to locate books.
  • Experience working or volunteering with people, especially young children.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Uses Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS) to conduct library business, including checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, administering charges and payments, placing holds, and preparing materials for interlibrary loan.
  • Assists with the maintenance and development of library collections by processing new materials, shelving, recommending purchases, mending damaged items, evaluating donations, and inventorying collections.
  • Provides assistance to the public in using the library and its resources, including answering reference questions, assisting with interlibrary loan requests, helping patrons use InfoSoup and public computers, and maintaining reading lists.
  • Actively contributes to positive public relationships, advocates for library services, and interacts with colleagues and the community to endorse good public relations.
  • May assist with library programs, collection of statistics, displays, special projects, staff meetings, and training opportunities.
