Library Assistant - Circulation - Part Time Temporary

About The Position

This is a Part-Time Temporary position, working 19 hours per week, focused on circulation duties within the library. The role involves providing services to patrons at the check-out desk, managing the circulation of library materials, shelving returned items, issuing library cards, and handling fines and fees. The position also includes routine library and clerical tasks performed under the supervision of the Circulation Librarian.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma.
  • Ability to follow oral and written direction.
  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically, clerical aptitude, accuracy and ability to keep to a schedule.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, credit card machine, and accurately make change (cash and coin).
  • Ability to operate computers in a Windows environment and work with web-based technology.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include: Drug screening, Motor vehicle records check, Criminal background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year customer service work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of library clerical procedures or ability to acquire such knowledge with ease.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a variety of services to patrons at the check-out desk
  • Checks books and other library materials out to patrons using the Yavapai Library Network's shared automation software
  • Checks in and shelves returned items
  • Empties book drops
  • Issues library cards to new patrons, renews cards, accepts payments for fines and fees and updates patron information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
