About The Position

Assists the Library Director in library operations and circulation, including performing daily library functions and assisting the Library Director with reports, programs, and special projects. This position requires working evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of good customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of library organization and the Dewey Decimal system.
  • Ability to work as a team with coworkers & other City of Taylor employees.
  • Ability to work well with adults and children.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations accurately.
  • Ability to provide assistance with the Library’s automated card catalog.
  • Ability to learn MS Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Experience in a service industry.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License, Class C.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak/read/write Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the Library Circulation Desk or other service locations and provides quality customer service to the public, City of Taylor departments & staff, schools, daycares and other organizations.
  • Assist patrons checking in & checking out materials, locating materials & information, using computers, registering patrons, answering the telephone.
  • Assist in annual inventory projects & other collection maintenance projects.
  • Explain library policy and procedures.
  • Reshelve library materials; maintain shelf order; shift materials as needed and participate in inventories.
  • Occasionally move heavy objects such as furniture, bookshelves, computers, and other equipment.
  • Assist patrons with personal computers and specialized research.
  • Prepare & conduct library programs as needed (story time, Head Start, etc.).
  • Put up seasonal decorations and displays.
  • Use of typical office equipment, specialized cleaning equipment, scanners, printers, copiers, AV, etc.
  • Assist with technical & physical processing of purchased, acquired and donated library materials.
  • Handle light repairs of materials.
  • Assist with compilation of daily circulation statistics, including sorting, counting, and alphabetizing.
  • Perform various light custodial tasks, i.e. dusting, empty waste baskets, cleaning library materials, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
